Although most correspondence regarding financial aid is sent to students directly, we realize that parents are highly involved in their students' lives, especially regarding college finances. To help parents of undergraduate dependent students find the information they need, we've listed information and links to the web pages we think parents will find most useful.

Financial Aid Calculators Available:
Prospective Students: Dependent, undergraduate Michigan residents can use our financial aid estimator, called M-Calc, to view an early aid estimate.

Current/continuing U-M families: Financial planning calculators are now available on Wolverine Access to estimate your Fall and Winter bills and calculate your eligibility for an alternative loan or PLUS loan. For information, click here. |
Friend (Guest) Account for Parents/Family:
The Parent/Family Authorization feature of Wolverine Access allows U-M students (or entering/admitted student with a valid Friend Account or uniqname and password) to authorize a Friend Account for their parents or other family members! A Friend Account grants access to your student's personal University information on Wolverine Access, including your student's financial aid award notice, financial aid forms/documents, and "eBill."
- To authorize Friend Accounts for parents/family members, your student must click on Parent/Family Authorization from within Wolverine Access. On this page, your student can select My Financial Aid Data to grant access to financial aid information and My Student Account Data for student account (billing) information.
- Once your student has authorized access, parents will receive an email within 24 hours, notifying them how to set up a Friend Account. For more information on the Friend Account, see the University's Information Technology and M-Parent websites. Once the parent has a Friend Account, go to Wolverine Access and select "My Student's Information" (under "Parents & Family"). Note: It can take up to 30 minutes after establishing a Friend Account for parents to have access to their student's award notice documents in Wolverine Access.
- Using the Parent/Family Authorization service, students can also sign up their parents/family members to receive electronic financial aid newsletters and emails about student accounts, housing, and University alerts and bulletins.

Privacy Notice to Parents:
Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and University policy, we are prohibited from releasing financial aid information to anyone but the student. In the case of a dependent student, we can discuss financial information with the student's parents or custodial parents, if the parents provide identifying information (the student's UMID) and dependency status is confirmed.
